Digital Phone Lines cause Havoc with your Credit Card Terminal

Did you know that your dial-up credit card terminal was built to be used with a traditional analog phone line like the one Ma Bell used to use? Unfortunately, most phone carriers today install phone lines called digital, DSL, bundled, Voice over IP, or T-Ones and none of these lines play nicely with your analog dial terminal. It is possible that your terminal will work on these new lines, sometimes for days, weeks, or even months before you experience communication issues, duplicate authorizations, or duplicate transactions.

If you are considering switching your phone systems, or have switched and are experiencing any of these problems we recommend one of the following: Have a separate analog line installed strictly for your terminal; upgrade to a terminal that communicates via your internet (Ethernet using IP) with a Cat5 cable connected to a router; or consider changing to a Virtual terminal.
